Breakfast for Chap Goh Meh

What's for breakfast today?...Mine was "Vegetarian Paos"! Today is the last day of Chinese New Year - Chap Goh Meh, means my family will go for vegetarian for a day. Actually every 1st and 15th of every month we'll have this practice. ( most of the buddist will follow )
And so I woke up quite early this morning to make these fresh "vegetarian" Char Siu Pao for my family's breakfast.

Fresh from the steamer...............yummy!

The ingredients for the fillings is simple, just need to get a nice and fresh vegetarian meat.
Here's the ingredients....

3-4 shallots (finely chopped)
1/2 tsp garlic (finely chopped) - optional
400g Vegetarian meat, diced
2tbsps vegetarian oyster sauce
1 tbsps sugar
1 tsp thick soy sauce
3 tbsps water
1 tsp sesame oil
1or 2 tsps shao xing wine
salt and pepper to taste
(cornflour solution for thickening)

Method:
~ Heat 2 tbsps oil and stir fry shallots and garlic till fragnant.
~ Add in vegetarian meat and continue to fry for awhile.
~ Add in all other ingredients and fry until cooked. Stir in cornflour solution.
~ Keep aside to cool before using.

** Pao dough is the same as the older post.

Isn't it great to have sumptuous homemade paos while sipping some fragnant tea? Mmmm......

Happy Chap Goh Meh everyone..:)

Flossy Milk Shake Buns

Hi my dear friends and readers, how's your Chinese New Year holidays? About me? ...I gained 2 kgs in a week!!! Just imagine how I eat..haha! With all the goodies and cookies all over my house, who can lose weigh with that!....;p

Almost 2 weeks I try not to bake anything cause we just couldn't finish the cookies on the table and shelf. And yet there are few more tubs that haven't been open...@-@ Anyway I just can't wait to bake something for breakfast tomorrow..;) Here comes the new experiment from my new book, "Magic Bread from Alex Goh".....

Flossy Milk Shake Buns

Yummy!! Really yummy!
Just use any sweet bread dough you like. My bun's dough was not from the recipe itself, cause I find it too complicated and I don't have the time for that. So I just used the sweet bread dough from my old post.

Here's the ingredients for the fillings:
100g Butter
115g Icing Sugar
Pinch of salt
50g Eggs
130g milk powder
100g Chicken / pork floss

Topping:
* Mayonnaise
* Extra Chicken / Pork floss

Method:
~ Cream butter, icing sugar and salt until well blended.
~ Add in eggs, cream until smooth. Add in milk powder and chicken / pork floss, mix until well comnined.
~ Divide sweet bread dough into 50g each and mould round. Rest for 10 mins. Then wrap in the fillings.
~ Let it proof until double in size.
~ Egg wash and bake at 180'C for 12-15 minutes.
~ Cool the buns on rack. Spread some mayonnaise on top of each buns and coat with extra chicken / pork floss.

Some extra kaya buns for my dear girl and hubby...:)

There are a few more dinners to attend end of this week before the Chinese New Year ends. Hopefully I'll get to control my diet after that..haha!
Cheers!!

Chinese Steamed Cake 鸡蛋糕

Hi everyone, I would like to wish all my friends and my dear readers a very Happy Chinese New Year....新年快乐。。。如意吉祥!!
So how are all your preparations? Mine is almost done! Still need to roast some pork for the eve dinner tommorow..;p Will start to pack soon, for we'll be back to our hometown, Seremban tommorow morning. And here's the last post before I start enjoying the Chinese New Year holidays. I've steamed some cakes (鸡蛋糕/发糕)for my family which they always have for the first day of CNY..:)

Well, if you like to have this cake the early morning for breakfast, you can always consider this. It's easy and really yummy.
Here's the recipe......
320g Self Raising flour
300g Castor sugar
360g Eggs (weigh with the shells)
1/2 tbsp Ovellet
alitttle vanilla essence (optional)
Method:
~ Beat all ingredients together in a mixing bowl at high speed for 7-8 minutes.
~ Pour into a 9" bamboo basket lined with baking paper.
~ Use a oiled knife, just slice a cross sign on top of the batter.
~ Steam at high heat for 30 minutes.
And its done!
See my cake.....wooooo....its really beautiful with the top opens like flower...:)
Sugar has been reduce here, the sweetness is just nice. Remember, less sugar might not have this texture..:)

Another pattern has been produced..haha! Its just some left over batter due to the basket i'm using was alittle too small. (I used a 6" one). Poured into paper cups, thought it will turn out in a round shape..;p Anyway, my daughter said it looks like a flower, and she likes these more..:)

Got to go.....once again wish you all have a wonderful holiday! GONG XI FA CAI.....!!!
